Mercer Law Class of 2008 Awards Inaugural Scholarship

MACON – Mercer Law’s Class of 2008 awarded its inaugural scholarship earlier this spring to graduating student Michele Milkey.

The scholarship was established during the 10-year reunion for the Class of 2008. Members decided they wanted to reward an outstanding third-year law student for his or her dedication to Mercer Law’s campus.

Bryan Babcock, ’08, helped lead the initiative for the class scholarship. He and his classmates wanted to reward a student not based solely on academics, but based on professionalism, character, attitude and how a student has enriched the experience of the third-year class.

“I thought it would be a great way to celebrate our 10-year mark and that my class deserved to come back and see all the progress the school has made since we graduated and put our own stamp on it,” said Babcock.

After meeting Milkey at the Annual Alumni Dinner, Babcock was ensured that the Class of 2008 had made the right decision.

“Ms. Milkey was certainly active in the community and was the most active student of the candidates in terms of working with her class,” Babcock said.

While attending Mercer Law, Milkey was secretary for the International Law Student Association, co-president and spring philanthropy chair of the Association of Women Law Students and president of Mercer Law Republicans. She was also very active in the Student Bar Association, serving as Social Committee co-chair, Diversity Committee member and Third-Year Concerns Committee member.

“I am so incredibly honored to have been chosen as the Class of 2008 Scholarship recipient. Mercer Law is such a great community to be a part of, and I’ve had such a great time over my last three years here getting involved in many different things,” said Milkey. “This scholarship helped me tremendously in the last semester of school. I can’t thank the Class of 2008 enough for this wonderful gift.”
