MACON – Mercer University will host Fulbright Visiting Scholar Dr. Cui Zhang for a lecture, titled “Agglomeration Economies in Chinese Cities,” April 12, 6 p.m., in Science and Engineering Building Room 110. The event is free and open to the public.

Dr. Zhang, an associate professor of economics at Jinan University in Guangzhou, China, is currently visiting the Labor and Worklife Program at Harvard University as a Fulbright Scholar. Her research focuses on the areas of urban economics, entrepreneurship and innovation.

“Mercer is honored to host a distinguished scholar such as Dr. Cui Zhang,” said Dr. Edward Weintraut, associate dean in the College of Liberal Arts, professor of German and the University’s Fulbright Program adviser. “Dr. Zhang is keenly interested in exchanging ideas about economic development with students and faculty at Mercer. The topic she has chosen is not merely interesting, but in light of President Trump’s recent meeting with the president of China, it is very timely.”

The lecture is supported by the Fulbright Scholar Program’s Outreach Lecturing Fund (OLF), which enables Visiting Scholars to share their research interests, speak about their home country and exchange ideas with U.S. students, faculty and community organizations. Through these lectures, universities forge relationships with the Fulbright Scholar Program, Visiting Scholars and Visiting Scholars’ home and host institutions.
