MACON/SAVANNAH/COLUMBUS – Mercer University School of Medicine (MUSM) celebrated the 2019 National Residency Match on March 15 at noon on all three of its campuses in Macon, Savannah and Columbus.

A total of 108 graduating students were matched to postgraduate training programs in hospitals in Georgia and other states.

“We are delighted to report that 100 percent of our fourth-year students matched into postgraduate residency programs,” said Dr. Jean Sumner, dean of MUSM. “Many of them – more than 40 percent – will remain in the state of Georgia.”

Eighty-seven percent of the Class of 2019 chose to enter a core specialty in their first postgraduate year, and 75 percent of these students selected these primary care specialties for their entire residency. Core specialties include internal medicine, pediatrics, family medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, general surgery, psychiatry, and emergency medicine.
