MACON — President/Chief Executive Officer of the Georgia Lottery Corporation, Rebecca Paul, will wrap-up Mercer University’s Executive Forum lineup of fall speakers for the 2001-2002 series. Paul will address the members of the Forum at 7:30 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Medical School Auditorium on Mercer’s Macon campus.
Bringing a wealth of expertise in lottery administration, management and marketing to the Georgia Lottery Corporation, Paul’s career history includes director positions with two major lotteries, Florida and Illinois, as well as consulting work for public and private lotteries in the United States, the Caribbean, Gibraltar, Hungary and Russia.
Under her guidance, the Georgia Lottery’s first year exceeded all expectations, with $1.13 billion in total sales and $362 million returned to the state for education, setting a new per capita sales record of $164.81 for first year lotteries. With Paul’s leadership, the Georgia Lottery is continuing this trend, increasing sales each year for the first seven years of operation making it the most successful lottery ever. To date, the Georgia Lottery has returned more than $4.5 billion to the State of Georgia for education.
Because of Paul’s leadership, the Georgia Lottery was the first recipient of Georgia Trend magazine’s “Donald R. Keough Award for Marketing Excellence.” Georgia Trend also named Paul “One of the Most Powerful and Influential People of Georgia” for the years 1994, Ô95 and Ô97 and among the “Most Influential Georgians” in 1999. In 1998, she was named “Entrepreneur of the Year” by the Stanford Business School Alumni Association and was privileged to be the first woman to be named “The Georgian of the Year” by the Georgia Association of Broadcasters.
As Georgia’s premier business enrichment program, the Executive Forum is a membership-based speaker series designed to link the business community to Mercer’s Eugene W. Stetson School of Business and Economics. Established in 1979, the Executive Forum serves as a resource for working professionals in Macon and Atlanta and provides an opportunity for executives to hear from some of the country’s most sought-after speakers, while interacting with other business leaders.
