Roswell Resident Receives Pharmacy Award

ATLANTA – Mercer faculty member Stephen J. Cutler received the Special Research Award at Mercer’s Southern School of Pharmacy commencement May 4 on Mercer’s Atlanta campus.

            Cutler, an associate professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, has received almost a half million dollars in funding, including a grant from the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense and one from the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Emergency Preparedness. He was also a co-investigator on a grant from the National Institutes of Health.

            Co-author of numerous textbook chapters, Cutler has co-edited two books, Biologically Active Natural Products: Agrochemicals and Biologically Active Natural Products: Pharmaceuticals. He has worked on several patents and is the lead on a patent for “Aquacide and Use.” With his findings published in more than 50 peer-reviewed journals, Cutler has presented research in the United States and abroad. He has advised over 30 Pharm.D. professional and Ph.D. in philosophy graduate students.

            Cutler holds a doctor of philosophy in medicinal chemistry degree from the University of Georgia.
