WHO: Peter W. Milonni, Los Alamos National Laboratory
WHAT: Seminar “Fast Light, Slow Light”
WHEN: 4:30 p.m., Oct. 9
WHERE: Room 101, Willet Science Center, Mercer University, 1400 Coleman Ave., Macon.
WHY: Can light travel faster than the speed of light in vacuum? Does this violate Einstein’s theory of relativity? At the opposite extreme, can light come to a complete stop? Recent experiments have shaken up our ideas about light, suggesting that both are possible. Dr. Peter Miloni will explain the theory behind these experiments. Milonni is a theoretical physicist from Los Alamos National Laboratory. He is the author of a well-known book on lasers and numerous scientific papers.
