Editor of The Biblical Recorder to Speak on I and II Samuel

Leading Old Testament scholar, Tony Cartledge, Ph.D., will speak on I and II Samuel at the 2002 Annual Bible Conference sponsored by Mercer University’s McAfee School of Theology. The conference will be held from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, on Mercer’s Cecil B. Day Campus, 3001 Mercer University Drive, Atlanta, then repeated on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at the Religious Life Center on the Mercer campus, 1400 Coleman Avenue, Macon. President and editor of The Biblical Recorder, North Carolina’s Baptist newspaper,  Cartledge writes a weekly opinion and devotional column. Among his numerous writings, he is author of the Smyth & Helwys Bible commentary on I and II Samuel and of Vows in the Old Testament and the Ancient Near East.  He is also published frequently by Baptist Press, Associated Baptist Press and Baptists Today.
 
During his career, he has taught or lectured on the Old Testament at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Appalachian State University, Duke University and the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. He has presented the Thomas F. Stanley Lectures at Campbell University and has taught at the Pastor’s School sponsored by the Baptist House of Studies at Duke Divinity School.
 
In addition to teaching and writing, Cartledge was senior pastor at Woodhaven Baptist Church in Cary, N.C., from 1988 to 1998, after serving pastorates at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Boone, N.C.; Tabbs Creek Baptist Church in Oxford, N.C.; Highland Baptist Church in Hogansville, Ga., and Loco Baptist Church in Lincolnton, Ga.
 
With a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia, Cartledge holds a master of divinity degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and Ph.D. from Duke University.
