MACON– Mercer University will hold a free information session on its new master’s program, the Holistic Educator, on the Macon campus Monday, Sept. 22, at 4:30 p.m. at Stetson Hall, room 162.

The University will also hold an information session at the Regional Academic Center in Eastman, Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 5 p.m.

With classes beginning in October in Eastman and Macon, Mercer is breaking ground with this innovative graduate program. A program of Mercer’s Tift College of Education, the Holistic Educator is designed to benefit more than the classroom teacher. A wide range of professionals who work with children or families, including family specialists, caregivers and health educators, can use the information offered through the Holistic Educator graduate program.

As populations grow more diverse, the Holistic Educator program will equip professionals with the knowledge and tools needed for working with young people of all backgrounds and abilities.

“Teachers today, whether they be certified public school teachers, health educators or other professionals working with people, need the skills to differentiate instruction, effectively manage diversity among individuals and understand best practices in teaching pedagogy,” said Dr. Margaret Morris, program director.

Participants in the two-year, 36-credit-hour program will study in cohort groups and will take two courses per semester. The program will include a range of on-the-job preparatory exercises that enable participants to maximize their skills on both the personal and professional levels.

The information sessions will allow interested individuals to meet professors and administrators as well as learn more about the curriculum of this new program. For more information on the Holistic Educator or the application process, contact Morris at (478) 301-2580 or morris_m@mercer.edu.
