MACON, Ga. — Mercer University music student Marshall Fordham recently participated in a guitar Master Class with highly renowned classical guitarist Antigone Gone. Fordham, an Elko, Ga., native, is the son of Robert and Trisha Fordham.

Gone, who is on the pre-college faculty at Juilliard, is a major player in the world of young, up-and-coming classical guitarists and has won several international competitions, including first place in the 1995 International Guitar Foundation of America Solo Guitar Competition.

Fordham’s instructor, Terry Cantwell, says, it’s a “feather in the cap” that will open a lot of doors for [Marshall] in the future.

“I have had students accepted to virtually all of the major conservatories. Marshall ranks at the top of all of them. He is one of the best students I’ve ever had,” he said.

Gone accepted five students for the class. Each spent 20 minutes performing a piece and then receiving commentary and instruction. Fordham performed “Sonata Romantica” by Manuel Ponce.
