The Mercer University Chapter of Habitat for Humanity will hold a home dedication ceremony on Sunday, December 5 at 2 p.m. The house is located at 1357 Ross Street, in Beall’s Hill. This house marks the second historic-looking Habitat house in Macon. It features a steep roof pitch, full front porch and wood composite siding. This is the sixth Habitat house that the Mercer students have built in Macon. The house will become home to the family of Willie Head. Come by and meet them, take a tour of their new Habitat home, and celebrate with us.
The house is sponsored by Mercer University Chapter of Habitat for Humanity – a student-led organization as well as First Baptist Church and Highland Hills Baptist Church. The students and churches raised the funds and volunteered long hours to construct the house in partnership with Willie Head. The City of Macon collaborated with Habitat and provided the property to further build upon its vision of affordable housing for every resident. Mercer Center for Service Learning and Community Development, Renaissance Garden Club and Bike-N-Build provided volunteers and supplemental funding.
About Macon Area Habitat for Humanity:
Macon Area Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical Christian housing ministry seeking to eliminate poverty housing in Macon by building houses in partnership with families in need. Macon Area Habitat for Humanity not only is helping individuals but also is building a better Macon. Funding for house construction comes from donations by businesses, civic organizations, foundations, individuals and others. Costs are kept to a minimum by utilizing volunteers to build houses. The organization has built 53 houses since its inception in 1986. Macon Area Habitat needs volunteers and donations to continue its mission.
