ATLANTA – Ruth Gregg Coney of Lawrenceville received the top student honor in the Specialist in Education program of Tift College of Education of Mercer University. The award was presented at commencement on Saturday, May 21, on the University’s Cecil B. Day Campus in Atlanta.
Mercer University President R. Kirby Godsey and Tift College of Education Dean Carl R. Martray presented Coney with the 2005 Outstanding Specialist in Education Student Award. Coney graduated with the specialist in education degree and a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. Coney teaches in the gifted program at Gwinnett County’s Knight Elementary School in Lilburn, where she has been since the 1997-98 academic year.
