ATLANTA – Andrew Christopher Smith of Nashville, Tenn. received one of three top honors for Mercer University theology students at commencement at the Atlanta campus on Saturday, May 21. He is the son of Randy and Diane Smith of Nashville.
Mercer University President R. Kirby Godsey presented Smith with the 2005 McAfee Outstanding Scholar Award. Smith graduated with the Master of Divinity degree from Mercer’s James and Carolyn McAfee School of Theology. Smith graduated with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.
While at McAfee, Smith served as education ministry intern at Towne View Baptist Church in Kennesaw, Ga. He later joined First Baptist Church of Columbus, Ga., as assistant pastor, where he is still working. This fall Smith will enroll in Vanderbilt University, where he will pursue a Ph.D. in American religious history, with a focus in Baptist history.
