ATLANTA – Several Mercer pharmacy students recently competed to represent the Southern School of Pharmacy at the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) clinical skills competition to be held in Las Vegas, Nev., this coming December.
Students from the Mercer student body competed in teams of two to solve a pharmacotherapy case and present their findings to a panel of judges. The local clinical skills competition was sponsored by the student chapter of the Georgia Society of Health-System Pharmacists (GSHP). First place honors went to Pharm.D. students Kat Wyatt of Peachtree City, Ga., and Candace Stearns of Colonel Heights, Va. Maureen Strong of Huntsville, Ala., and Kinjal Vakil of Augusta, Ga., won second place. Felicia Roberts of Atlanta, Ga., and Janene Marshall of Matteson, Ill., rounded out third place.
The Mercer student chapter of GSHP is an affiliate of the Georgia Society of Health-System Pharmacists, which was formed to provide opportunities for pharmacy students to become informed about institutional pharmacy practice; to encourage post-graduate involvement in pharmacy organizations; and to provide a forum for interchange of information among students interested in institutional practice.
