MACON — Mercer University’s Moot Court Team won the Regional V, National Moot Court competition in November, besting teams from Emory University and the University of Georgia on the way to a National Finals berth in February in New York.
In the semi-final round at the regional, the team defeated Emory and then Georgia in the finals. The team, which includes Zach McEntyre, Ann Patton Nelson and Brett Thompson, also received awards for the Best Brief in the competition, Best Oralist in the four preliminary rounds (Ann Patton Nelson) and Best Oralist in the final round (Zach McEntyre).
“Mercer’s three competitors are exceptional advocates who have worked tirelessly to succeed and their performance at the regional competition in Atlanta is nothing less than extraordinary,” said Professor Reynold Kosek. “For a team to win not only the team championship, but also the awards for brief writing and oral advocacy is especially noteworthy, given the high caliber of the competing teams in this region. I am confident that our team will represent Mercer admirably in the national championship rounds in New York at the end of January.”
Mercer and the University of Georgia Law School will advance to New York, where they will compete with top teams from the 13 other regional competitions for the National Championship in February.
