MACON, Ga. – The Walter F. George School of Law is one of the nation’s most outstanding law schools, according to The Princeton Review. The New York-based education service company features Mercer in the just-published 2008 edition of its “Best 170 Law Schools.”

Based on the quality of teaching and the accessibility of its faculty, the Mercer Law School continues to rock, legally speaking. For the fourth consecutive year, the faculty at the Law School has been cited as one of the nation’s leaders, ranked ninth nationally, in legal education as determined by student surveys. Students said that Mercer is committed to producing lawyers who demonstrate “compassion for the client,” and this goal is reinforced by professors who are accessible and “seem to really care about the student.”

Students surveyed said that at Mercer they find an institution that “rejects the ‘survival of the fittest’ mentality of most law schools,” adopting instead a “no man left behind” approach. One law student said, “Every single person – librarians, professors, classmates and even the sweet lady in the bookstore – is there to help you if you need it.”

Throughout the students’ time here, they receive “great practical skills instruction,” which includes an “unbeatable” legal writing program. The legal writing program at Mercer has been ranked either one or two in the country for the past three years.

In the survey, students also said Mercer “has done an excellent job” of “installing adequate access to electronic resources not only in the library and computer labs, but also in the individual classrooms.” They also said, “The administration is extremely responsive to student needs” and displays “a positive attitude toward helping students thrive in the academic setting.”

Dean Daisy Floyd said, “I am proud that Mercer Law School is once again recognized by the Princeton Review for the valuable education we offer our students, and in particular that our faculty has been recognized again as among the top ten in the nation.”

According to Robert Franek, Princeton Review VP-Publishing, data collected from law school students helps establish who is included in the annual publication. “We select schools for this book based on our high regard for their academic programs and offerings, institutional data we collect from the schools, and the candid opinions of students attending them who rate and report on their campus experience at the schools. We are pleased to recommend the Mercer Law School to readers of our book and users of our website as one of the best institutions they could attend to earn a law school degree.”
