If you missed the the Macon Candidate Forum on Monday night at the Douglass Theatre, you still have a chance to see the candidates for mayor and City Council President debate the issues. The forum will be rebroadcast Friday, Nov. 2, through Wednesday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. on WCOX 15 on the Cox Communications cable system.

The forum included the two mayoral candidates, Robert Reichert and David Cousino, as well as candidates for the five citywide City Council seats, including: write-in candidate David Corr, who is competing against James Timley, as well as council candidates in uncontested races: Lauren Benedict, Rick Hutto, Miriam Paris, and Larry Schlesinger.

The Forum gave Macon voters a chance to hear from the individuals who will help lead the city for the next four years and allow the candidates to express their views about the direction of the city. It will also offered an opportunity for Council candidates to preview their qualifications for City Council President.

The city charter requires that the president of council be one of the citywide representatives. This election is not by voters but by the City Council, which will elect a president from among the five citywide Council candidates who are elected by the voters.

The Macon City Election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 6.

The event was co-sponsored by The Telegraph, Mercer University, Cox Communications, the Douglass Theatre, the League of Women Voters, the Community Foundation of Central Georgia and John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
