Science and Engineering Building Dedication Set for Nov. 26

WHAT: Mercer University celebrates the School of Engineering’s 22-year partnership with the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center and formally dedicates its state-of-the-art Science and Engineering building, which opened this year to house portions of the School of Engineering and the Physics Department of the College of Liberal Arts. Tours of the building will follow the program.

WHO: United States Senator Saxby Chambliss, U.S. Representative Jim Marshall and Maj. Gen. Thomas Owen, commander of the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center, Robins Air Force Base will join Mercer University students, alumni, faculty and administrators to celebrate this facility equipped with leading edge technology.

WHEN:  Monday, Nov. 26, 2007, at 11 a.m.
 
WHERE:  The auditorium of the new Science and Engineering Building on Mercer University’s Macon campus. To access the building, use the South Campus entrance, off Mercer University Drive. 
 
WHY:   The Science and Engineering Building is a state-of-the-art teaching and research facility that further advances Mercer University’s position as a leader in engineering and science education in the nation. The Building is designed to provide both introductory and advanced educational experiences through the use of specialized classrooms and laboratories that help engineering and science students learn to apply their knowledge and skills. The two-story facility also increases the level of specialized instructional and educational activity under Mercer’s long-standing Education Partnership Agreement with the Air Logistics Center. A materials testing system and the new laboratories in the facility expand research capabilities at Mercer and offer hands-on undergraduate laboratory course experience and graduate thesis research for students, while also providing additional production capacity and advanced training for WR-ALC personnel.
