ATLANTA — Gov. Sonny Perdue has appointed Mercer University Trustee Dwight J. Davis as the Fourth Congressional District Representative on the Board of Natural Resources. Gov. Perdue announced the confirmation on Oct. 1. As a member of the Board of Natural Resources, Davis will be responsible for setting the regulations that the Georgia Department of Natural Resources enforces.
Davis is a senior partner in the Litigation Practice Group at King and Spalding in Atlanta, and joined the Mercer University Board of Trustees in 2008. Davis earned a bachelor’s degree from The Citadel and earned his law degree from Mercer’s Walter F. George School of Law.
Davis is one of the nation’s leading authorities in consumer class actions with particular emphasis in suits involving the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries. In addition to his class action expertise, Davis has litigation and trial experience in a wide range of civil matters including insurance coverage, RICO, securities fraud, antitrust and consumer fraud, and has more than 25 years of experience as a trial lawyer defending corporations in numerous jurisdictions across the country.
Davis is a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and is listed in The Best Lawyers in America, Georgia Super Lawyers and Georgia’s Legal Elite. He serves on the board of legal advisors to the Southeastern Legal Foundation and works with the American Diabetes Association. He and his wife, Brenda, have two children.
About the Board of Natural Resources
The Board of Natural Resources consists of 18 citizens appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Georgia Senate. The Board, which convenes 10 times a year, is responsible for setting rules and regulations ranging from air and water quality to hunting seasons and provides input into issues such as the agency’s budget recommendations and legislative initiatives.
