MACON — Mercer University’s Environmental Studies and Policy Program and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society are co-sponsoring a seminar by Dr. Stan Meiburg, an Environmental Protection Agency administrator, titled “Air Water Quality Policy and how they affect us.” Dr. Meiburg will speak on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Medical School Auditorium. The seminar is free and open to the public.
“We are very pleased to have Dr. Meiburg come to campus to speak about his experiences in the Environmental Protection Agency,” said Dr. Brian Rood, associate professor of interdisciplinary studies. “Dr. Meiburg brings experience and familiarity about the EPA that is both extensive and thorough. He will be speaking about air and water quality policy and how these policies affect us as individuals and as communities. This is a wonderful opportunity for students, faculty and staff to gain fruitful insight into the workings of this federal agency.”
Dr. Meiburg is deputy regional administrator for the EPA Region 4 in Atlanta. Throughout his career, he has been involved in a number of areas of the EPA. He has served as the director of EPA Region 6’s Air, Pesticides and Toxics Division, director of the planning and management staff of EPA’s Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards, and has worked on the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments, as well as planned and budgeted for the air program. Dr. Meiburg has also worked at the EPA headquarters in Washington. For his efforts, in 2010 he received the EPA’s gold medal for his work on the Clean Air Act amendments and silver medal for work on state-federal relations.
