ATLANTA – Maestro Adrian Gnam, director of the International Conductors Workshop and Competition (ICWC), today announced the winners of the 14th annual ICWC, held Jan. 13-16 at Lanier High School in Atlanta.

Fifteen conductors from China, South Korea, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, New York, Michigan, Indiana and California conducted the professional ICWC Orchestra on a culminating free concert on Jan. 16 in works by Schubert, Brahms, Dvorak, Verdi, Strauss and Tchaikovsky. The conductors participated in seven rehearsals and a master class during the four-day workshop, which has become one of the most well-known and highly regarded conductor training programs in the nation.

“I was really excited about this group of conductors. They had already shown great potential as conductors from the videos they submitted and from their accomplishments with orchestras around the world,” said Maestro Gnam. “This concert was absolutely wonderful, and it showed the progress the conductors made in such a short time.”

The three winners of this year's ICWC, sponsored by the Gwinnett Symphony Chamber Orchestra and Mercer University's Townsend School of Music, are Francis Ku from Hong Kong, who is a master's conducting student at the University of Texas at Arlington; Antoine T. Clark, who is music director of the McConnell Arts Center Chamber Orchestra in Columbus, Ohio; and Ronald Nash, Master of Music student and double-major in trombone performance and orchestral conducting at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington, Indiana.

The conductors were led through intense instruction on technique, rehearsal procedures and musical preparation of standard repertoire for full symphony orchestra by associate directors Dr. Gregory Pritchard, music director of the Gwinnett Symphony Chamber Orchestra; Robert Gutter, esteemed conductor and teacher; and Maestro Gnam, a Distinguished Artist in Residence at Townsend School of Music and music director emeritus of the Macon Symphony Orchestra.

The eighth annual summer ICWC will be held July 7-9 in Atlanta. For further information, contact Maestro Gnam at adriangnam@aol.com.
