MACON – Four Mercer University School of Engineering faculty members were featured on the cover of Technical Communication, the flagship journal in the field of technical communication, earlier this month.

Dr. Pam Estes Brewer, professor of technical communication and director of the M.S. in Technical Communication Management program, Dr. Marjorie Davis, founding chair and professor emerita, Dr. Helen Grady, current chair and professor, and Dr. George Hayhoe, professor emeritus and former editor of Technical Communication, were listed among the journal’s most influential “mentors and muses” over the nearly 70-year history of the Society of Technical Communication (STC).

“We celebrate this announcement, yet these accolades do not come as a surprise. For years we have known that the talented faculty who founded, developed and fostered our technical communication program are among the finest in the country. We are very proud of our colleagues and delighted that STC has acknowledged their extraordinary contributions to this evolving field of study,” said Dr. Laura Lackey, dean and Georgia Kaolin Chair of Engineering.

STC, the world’s largest and oldest professional association dedicated to the advancement of the field of technical communication, publishes Technical Communication quarterly.

The cover of the May 2020 issue “recognizes STC fellows past and present for their contributions as mentors and muses to the authors of the articles in this research journal from its earliest issues. The abiding support of these exemplary members of the profession for rigorous inquiry and its applications to teaching and practice is a continuing source of inspiration for researchers across the field,” according to the journal.

In addition to this recent recognition, Dr. Brewer, Dr. Davis, Dr. Grady and Dr. Hayhoe have each received STC’s Jay R. Gould Award for Excellence in Teaching Technical Communication.
