MACON – Mercer University's Walter F. George School of Law will hold its 2013 Law Day luncheon on Friday, April 5, at 12:30 p.m. in Hawkins Arena of the University Center on Mercer's Macon campus. Georgia Attorney General Samuel S. Olens will deliver the keynote address on the importance of the rule of law for our justice system to function properly.
During the Law Day luncheon, Mercer Law School will recognize three alumni for their outstanding contributions to the legal profession: Judge Lamar Sizemore, CLA '70 and LAW '74, Manley F. Brown Distinguished Adjunct Professor Award; Col. James P. Terry, LAW '73, Outstanding Alumnus Award; and Suzanne Loyd Cassidy, LAW '81, Alumni Meritorious Service Award.

Olens was sworn in as Georgia's 53rd attorney general on Jan. 10, 2011. He was chairman of the Cobb County Board of Commissioners from 2002 through 2010.Previously, he served as Cobb County District 3 commissioner from 1999 through 2002. Olens graduated from the Emory University School of Law in 1983 and was a member of Ezor & Olens P.C. from 1983 through 2010. He is a registered mediator/arbitrator with the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution. Olens has been admitted to practice law in Georgia and D.C. as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. Olens and his wife Lisa have two children, Lauren and Jonathan.
The Law Day theme is “Realizing the Dream: Equality for All.” Established in 1958 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, Law Day is designed to strengthen the public's understanding of the American justice system. Though the national observance of Law Day is generally May 1, many law schools, including Mercer Law School, publicly recognize it earlier in the spring semester due to the heavy academic demands in May.
