Georgia Baptist College of Nursing Professor Selected for Governor’s Teaching Fellows Program

1015

ATLANTA – Dr. Jennifer L. Bartlett, assistant professor in Mercer University's Georgia Baptist College of Nursing, was recently selected as a 2016 Governor's Teaching Fellow. One of 15 faculty members who will represent institutions of higher education across the state, Dr. Bartlett was chosen as a result of a highly competitive application and selection process.

The Governor's Teaching Fellows Program was established in 1995 by Zell Miller, governor of Georgia from 1991-1999, to provide the state's higher education faculty with expanded opportunities for developing important teaching skills. Miller envisioned that this program would address faculty members' pressing need to use emerging technologies and instructional tools that are becoming increasingly important for learning in today's society.

Dr. Bartlett has been a nurse educator in both hospitals and colleges since 1999. Her research interests include aspects of nursing education such as simulation, technical innovation, ethics and curriculum development.

She completed a two-year program in clinical ethics consultation at Bon Secours Richmond Health System and has presented locally, nationally and internationally on nursing ethics. She also has extensive experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of simulation in nursing and interprofessional arenas. She served as a simulation consultant to a university in Muscat, Oman, training its nursing faculty and students.

Dr. Bartlett's scholarly contributions include updates to the electronic version of the 8th edition of Fundamentals in Nursing: The Art and Science of Person-Centered Nursing Care by Taylor, Lillis and Lynn. She has also published several recent articles on simulation.

She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, her Master of Science in Nursing from Old Dominion University and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Cleveland State University. She is a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) by the National League for Nursing and is board-certified in medical-surgical nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

“Dr. Bartlett's academic drive extends to other faculty, as she supports fellow colleagues and researchers in their discovery of new ways to facilitate student learning,” said Dr. Linda A. Streit, dean of the Georgia Baptist College of Nursing. “Faculty activities associated with the Governor's Teaching Fellows Program include development opportunities which can further enhance Dr. Bartlett's position within the University.”

The Governor's Teaching Fellows Program is an outreach program of the Institute of Higher Education at the University of Georgia. To improve the quality of instruction in the state's colleges and universities, the Governor's Teaching Fellows Program assumes the complex challenge of moving college faculty members to the leading edge of instructional practice.

To date, more than 89 subject areas, professions and teaching areas have been represented and Fellows have come from more than 61 public and private institutions statewide. For more information on the Governor's Teaching Fellows Program, visit ihe.uga.edu/outreach/governors-teaching-fellows.
