Mercer’s Marketing Communications Office won awards in four categories in the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District III Awards competition.

CASE is a nonprofit association dedicated to educational advancement that serves institutions across the world. It works with professionals in the fields of alumni relations, communications, development, marketing and advancement services. The District III/Southeast region includes member institutions in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

“I’m incredibly proud of the work our team has accomplished over the last year,” said Matt Smith, director of digital communications for the Marketing Communications Office. “These awards are well-earned and are an affirmation of the talent, hard work and dedication each member continually exhibits.”

Two of the awards Mercer received were for projects related to Mercer Music at Capricorn. Following a major renovation, Macon’s historic Capricorn Sound Studios was reborn in December 2019 as Mercer Music at Capricorn, a complex that includes a working recording studio, music incubator, museum and office space.

In the design category, Mercer earned silver for its collection of Capricorn Sound Studios specialty pieces. Leading up to grand re-opening celebrations, Marketing Communications staff created a number of specialty pieces, including a T-shirt, bandana, coaster and commemorative vinyl album.

The team also earned a silver award in the digital communication category for the microsite launched in September 2019 for Mercer Music at Capricorn. Website visitors can learn about Capricorn’s rich history, read staff-written feature stories, find information about visiting the museum, and express interest in recording in the studio or renting a band room or office space.

Another silver came in the writing category for the “Classroom Spotlight” story series, which debuted on Mercer’s news site in 2019 and is now published on The Den. The series highlights innovative Mercer courses that go beyond the traditional lecture format and offer unique learning experiences for students. The five stories submitted for the entry showcased Digital StorytellingPresidential PrimariesUsabilityIntroduction to Ethics and Spiritual Care through Dream Interpretation.

Last, Mercer received a bronze award in the long general information video category for a video in its “Beyond the Bear” YouTube series. The series, launched in January 2020, highlights some of the unique and interesting passions Mercer faculty and staff members pursue outside of their jobs. The submitted video was the third in the series and showcased the talents of plumber Crosby Adams, who is also an aspiring musician, actor and amateur magician.
