MACON – Cathy Cox, dean of Mercer University School of Law, recently announced the appointment of two new associate deans, beginning July 1. Professor Sarah Gerwig-Moore will move into the role of associate dean for academic affairs, and Professor Linda Jellum will fill the law school’s newly created position of associate dean for faculty research and development.
“I am excited about working with both Professors Gerwig-Moore and Jellum to strengthen and enhance our academic programs and the scholarly work of our faculty,” said Dean Cox. “Both of them share Mercer Law School’s commitment to students and to excellence in legal education, and will bring new ideas and perspectives to our efforts to better prepare students for today’s legal workplaces.”
Gerwig-Moore joined Mercer Law School’s faculty as an assistant professor in 2006 and was promoted to full professor in July 2018. Prior to her academic career, she practiced with the Georgia Public Defender Standards Council as a staff and supervising attorney.
After coming to Mercer, Gerwig-Moore created the Mercer Habeas Project and was the founding co-chair of the College Hill Corridor initiative, both of which received national recognition.
“I am so honored to have been asked to fill this important role at the Law School. We’re at an interesting institutional moment, and I’m excited about working with my colleagues and students to build on what we do best and shore up areas where we have room to grow,” said Gerwig-Moore.
Jellum joined the Mercer Law faculty in 2003, was promoted to full professor in 2012 and now holds the Ellison Capers Palmer Sr. Professor of Tax Law Chair. She taught at the law schools of Tulane University, Florida State University, the University of Washington and Seattle University, and practiced law with the Washington State Attorney General’s office before coming to Mercer.
“I am delighted that Dean Cox has created this new position to further Mercer’s commitment to faculty research and development, and I am honored to have been asked to lead Mercer’s effort in this direction,” said Jellum.
