On August 7, Mercer Law School welcomed 143 members into the Class of 2021. The entering class consists of 57% women (the highest percentage ever for Mercer Law) and 24% students of color, 9% identified as LGBTQ. Nine students are legacies, having a family member that is a graduate of Mercer Law School. They came from 56 undergraduate institutions and represent 41 undergraduate majors. The students come from 13 different states, ranging heavily from Georgia, Florida, Alabama, North Carolina and South Carolina. The class includes a professional tennis instructor, an intern for alum and current Georgia Governor Nathan Deal, paralegals, a tour guide of the U.S. Capitol and a songwriter for Teen Choice Awards nominee, Logic. Additionally, four members of the class have served in the military, with one student being a former Black Hawk helicopter pilot and another being a former Sniper Team Leader.
Our new students range in age from 21 to 49, with an average age of 24. Many of the students have volunteered with different philanthropic and non-profit organizations, such as Habitat for Humanity, the Ronald McDonald House and Project Open Hand. They have held leadership roles in their undergrad institutions, including being presidents of fraternities and sororities, competitors on Model UN teams, varsity athletes and founders of diverse student organizations.
