Mercer Makes The Princeton Review’s Best Colleges Guide for 11th Consecutive Year

MACON, Ga. – For the 11th consecutive year, Mercer University appears in The Princeton Review's annual best colleges guide.

In a two-page profile on the University, The Review notes that “Mercer University is a school that students flock to for 'its reputation as a rigorous academic institution' where professors 'truly want to see students succeed.'”

The publication goes on to read, “It's hard to pin down an aspect of college life that isn't represented at Mercer,” and “If there is a buzzword to describe the student body at Mercer, it is 'involved.'”

The Review does not provide an overall ranking of the schools in “The Best 378 Colleges 2014 Edition.” Instead, the schools – which represent about 15 percent of the four-year colleges in America and four others outside the U.S. – are ranked according to the top 20 in 62 different categories based on surveys of 126,000 students. This year, Mercer was ranked No. 16 in “Future Rotarians and Daughters of the American Revolution.” Last year, Mercer was No. 8 among 377 schools in level of participation in intramural sports.

“Mercer offers outstanding academics, which is the primary criteria for our choice of schools for the book,” said Robert Franek, senior vice president/publisher of The Princeton Review and author of “The Best 378 Colleges.”

“We base our selections primarily on data we obtain in our annual institutional data surveys. We also take into account input we get from our staff, our 35-member National College Counselor Advisory Board, our personal visits to schools and the wide range of feedback we get from our surveys of students attending these schools. It is their opinions that college applicants often value the most, particularly on (or in the absence of) campus visits. We also work to keep a wide representation of colleges in the book by region, size, selectivity and character.”

This year's guide goes on sale for $23.99 on Tuesday, Aug. 6. School profiles and ranking lists are posted at PrincetonReview.com. The school profiles in “The Best 378 Colleges” are also published in a line of four e-books, each priced at $9.99.
