Stephen Bradshaw is a commercial loan officer at Queensborough National Bank in Augusta. He graduated from Mercer University in 2012 with a psychology major and business minor and earned his Master of Business Administration from Mercer’s Stetson School of Business and Economics in 2014.
Here are five things to know about Bradshaw:
1. He didn’t always want to be a banker.
Bradshaw grew up around banking since his father was in the business, but that made him avoid this career choice initially. It wasn’t until later into college that he really started leaning toward business school and realized banking was the right path for him. He was able to leave Mercer with an MBA and worked at SunTrust in downtown Macon for a couple years before moving to Augusta.
2. He’s a numbers guy and a people person.
“Trying to figure out and solve problems is something that I like to do,” Bradshaw said. “But at the same time, I could never just be sitting at a desk in front of a computer. I really enjoy meeting people and building relationships. Banking, for me, was kind of an easy fit because it gave me the ability to dig really deep in numbers but also to help customers. It was just kind of a good pairing for me.”
One of the most rewarding parts of his job is being able to look back and see how he helped businesses reach better situations for their future.
3. He met his wife at Mercer.
Bradshaw and his wife, Morgann (Belcher), met at Mercer; he proposed to her on the roof of the Jack Tarver Library; and they got married in Newton Chapel in summer 2013. They have a son, Stephen Jr., who will be 2 years old in January.
“Being graduates of Mercer is only scratching the surface of what the school means to us,” he said.
4. Mercer taught him people skills.
“One of the reasons I chose Mercer is that it was a good fit for me,” Bradshaw said. “I would not have benefited from my time at a large school. I was able to get to know all my fellow classmates and my professors. I feel like Mercer did a really good job of preparing me so I’m very comfortable interacting with people. Mercer made sure that I had skills that I needed for my profession.”
5. Investing in the community is important to him.
“I feel like I’m still very early in my career. In my job roles, relationships are key. I’m really trying to put roots here (in Augusta). I just want to invest as much as I can in the community and also at the bank. I plan to solidify my role at the bank, continue to meet my goals and see what the future holds at Queensborough.”
