He was ordained in 1983 and served as a curate in St Leonard’s on Sea, Sussex. He was appointed curate-in-charge, then rector of St John’s, Stoke, Guildford in Surrey, where he served from 1986-1997. He then was appointed vicar of Virginia Water, where he served until 2017.

He earned his B.A. in geography from Sussex University, Diploma in Higher Education (DipHE) in theology from Trinity College, Bristol, and M.Th. with distinction from Oxford University, where his thesis examined the ethical management of pilgrimages to the Holy Land.

Additionally, he was awarded a Doctorate of Membership in Action Learning (D.Phil.) by International Management Centres Association, and Ph.D. by Oak Hill College and Middlesex University, where his thesis examined the historical roots, theological basis and political consequences of Christian Zionism in Britain and the U.S. from 1820.
