MACON – Mercer University is once again the highest-ranked Georgia institution in any category in the latest edition of U.S. News & World Report's “America's Best Colleges” guide.

Mercer is ranked among the top 10 universities in the South for the 16th consecutive year and is listed by the magazine as the No. 1 best value in its category. Additionally, Mercer is No. 4 among “Up-and-Comers” in the South, and the School of Engineering's undergraduate program moved up seven spots from last year to No. 34 in the nation.

This year's overall score of 82 places Mercer among the top 25 regional universities in the nation and No. 8 in the South for the second consecutive year. It is the No. 1 best value in the South for the second time in three years. The best value distinction is based on a school's academic quality and the net cost of attendance for a student who received the average level of need-based financial aid.

The University earned its highest-ever ranking among “Up-and-Comers” at No. 4. This distinction is based on a survey of college administrators regarding institutions that they believe have recently made the most promising and innovative changes in the areas of academics, faculty, student life, campus and facilities.

The School of Engineering, established in 1985, consistently ranks among the nation's top engineering programs that have bachelor's or master's as their terminal degrees. Mercer is one of only five undergraduate engineering programs in the region to be ranked among U.S. News & World Report's top 50.
