Pharm.D. Student Rachel Calhoun Wins School of Business Elevator Pitch Competition
ATLANTA – Mercer University’s Stetson-Hatcher School of Business held its Elevator Pitch Competition on Feb. 25, with Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) student Rachel Calhoun taking home the top prize of $500.
The competition was open to all students on all Mercer campuses to present a two-minute pitch of a unique business idea, with prize money offered by the Mercer Innovation Center.
Calhoun, a second-year Pharm.D. student from Cordele, pitched her idea for a redesigned pill container.
“Currently, the most prevalent pill container marketed is a simple box with few additional features. Through consideration of the rise in the aging population, I formed a new design with increased capacity, accessibility, and many other features to improve the process of taking medication. By including new features that are more consumer-focused, my product aspires to meet an unmet need within the market and make taking medication easier,” said Calhoun.
Calhoun is one of the first participants in the newly established College of Pharmacy Entrepreneurial-Focused track, a collaboration between the pharmacy and business schools.
She graduated in 2017 from Mercer’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences earning a bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in chemistry.
