ATLANTA – David Taylor, PT, DPT, GCS, clinical associate professor of physical therapy in Mercer University’s College of Health Professions, was named a Distinguished Fellow of the National Academies of Practice.
The National Academies of Practice advance interprofessional health care by fostering collaboration and advocating policies in the best interest of individuals and communities.
Distinguished practitioners and scholars are elected by their peers from multiple different health professions to join the organization, touted as the only interprofessional group of health care practitioners and scholars dedicated to supporting affordable, accessible, coordinated quality health care for all.
Dr. Taylor was nominated to be recognized as a Distinguished Fellow by Greg Hartley, PT, DPT, FNAP, president of the Academy of Geriatric Physical Therapy.
“Dr. Taylor’s passion for treating older adults, especially related to preventing falls, has included collaboration with multiple health professionals, the Georgia Falls Prevention Coalition and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; advocating on the local, state and national levels; and engaging student physical therapists in these activities,” said Dr. Jeannette Anderson, PT, DHS, chair of Mercer’s Department of Physical Therapy.
Dr. Taylor joined Mercer’s faculty in 2011 and serves as director of clinical education in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program.
He received Bachelor of Science, Master of Physical Therapy and Doctor of Physical Therapy degrees from Emory University and is recognized as a Board-Certified Geriatric Clinical Specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties.
About the College of Health Professions
Mercer University’s College of Health Professions is composed of five disciplines: physical therapy, physician assistant studies, public health, clinical psychology, and athletic training. The College offers a doctoral-level physical therapy program, master’s-level physician assistant program, bachelor’s- and master’s-level public health programs, doctoral-level program in clinical psychology, and master’s-level athletic training program.
