MACON, Ga. – Mercer University’s Center for Leadership and Volunteerism is hosting a campuswide Volunteer Fair on Friday, Aug. 23, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., in Penfield Hall. The event is open to Mercer students, faculty and staff, as well as community members, and is part of the University’s ongoing efforts to encourage students to become involved in outreach into the Macon community.

“We are thrilled with the number of responses we have gotten from community partners for this fair. We will welcome a wide variety of both local non-profits and student-led service organizations to campus next week, enabling each student to find the organization that best fits their strengths,” said Chelsea Flieger, coordinator of community engagement at Mercer. “Volunteering is a fantastic way for students to build ties with the Macon community and to really make this place their home. We anticipate a positive response from students as well and look forward to plugging even more Mercer students in with the Macon community.”

Over 40 organizations will be in attendance at the event.

Additionally, the Volunteer Fair will include a service project for Operation Gratitude, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, volunteer-based organization that sends care packages year-round to service members deployed in harm’s way. Supplies will be set up for participants to make cards and letters to be included in such care packages. Organizers hope to contribute more than 500 cards and letters from the event.

Students planning on attending can RSVP to the Volunteer Fair on Facebook for a chance to win a raffle prize.
